Welcome to Brightwood Springs
No prescribed revelation
Be Heart Wild
Brightwood Springs is the beating heart of Brightwood Wilderness Center, an eighty-five acre preserve of vital, living forest held as a place of encounter: with the natural world, with other people, and with the part of yourself only heard when distractions grow quiet enough for authenticity to speak. Brightwood is not a place to become a better version of yourself. It is a place where what has been managed, muted, guarded, or made smaller is shed, allowing the spark of your own original wildness to ignite.
A beautiful place can become another demand if it tells you how you are supposed to feel. Brightwood does not ask for serenity, gratitude, catharsis, or transformation on cue. Your day may be quiet or vivid. You may feel restored, stirred, uncertain, delighted, tired, or newly awake to a question. The experience belongs to you, including the parts that resist easy meaning.
Wildness as permission
Wildness here does not mean spectacle or abandon. It means life that has not been made obedient to every social expectation, mental constraint, physical signal, and personal inclination. The land already embodies that freedom perfectly. In its presence, resonating to its song, what is true within us finds permission to move, breathe, speak, create, rest, refuse, and begin again.
The day is held, not the outcome
Brightwood takes responsibility for the container: the pace, the welcome, the nourishment, the care, the thresholds, and the farewell. That care makes it possible for each guest to stop producing the experience and begin receiving it. What emerges organically within that container has real integrity, real resonance, real wildness.
The Brightwood Day
A day without self-improvement, only self-return
Attentively held but entirely your own, our foundational daylong retreat brings the wilderness to rest within you. A Springs Day gives shelter and rhythm to your experience of the land; it is structure in service of freedom, on forest time.

Springs Treatments
Care that meets you where you are
Treatments at Brightwood Springs are optional extensions of the Brightwood Day. They offer focused time for the body, nervous system, or inner life within the larger spaciousness of the land. Intentionally integrated with the spirit of place, a Springs treatment can elevate the transformative potential of your day.
Offered by Brightwood founder Emily Carson, the threshold assessment is a brief, courageous encounter to either begin or wrap up your Springs Day at a place of deepest inner access. Sessions address any emotional, psychological, or spiritual knot you bring to your Brightwood Day: Arrival sessions awaken clarity about what may lie beneath that and how to use your day to deepen its transformation; departure sessions capitalize on your day’s opening and insights to allow revelations to land with greater resonance. Grounded in the principles of authenticity, courage, and human becoming that anchor Brightwood as a whole, the assessment offers a non-sectarian therapeutic setting in which to meet your own true potential. Choose your session timing at booking.
Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs promote a continual state of healing and repair in our bodies, supporting movement and change by treating the natural rhythm of energy and blood flow. Given the proper support, the body is able to heal itself and establish optimal well being. Choose a standard 20 minute session or an immersive 45 minute treatment that integrates acupuncture and cranial sacral therapy, and let us know in the booking form if you prefer a morning or afternoon treatment.
A gentle, delicate hands-on healing modality that focuses on the wave-like rhythmic pulse that moves through the entire body. It uses a light touch to release tension in the connective tissue, or fascia of the body, especially in the head, neck and spine. Cranial Sacral Therapy is deeply relaxing to the nervous system and is therefore very effective in reducing pain, improving sleep, and reducing symptoms of anxiety, depression, and fatigue. Choose a standard 20 minute session or an immersive 45 minute treatment that integrates cranial sacral and acupuncture, and let us know in the booking form if you prefer a morning or afternoon treatment.
Elizabeth offers an integrated approach to the body that is deeply inspired by the healing ways and comforts found in the beautiful landscapes that surround us. Beginning from the premise that every body is its own environment, each session is unique and based on your anatomical and energetic needs. Choose a 45 minute reset or a more immersive 60 minute session, and let us know in the booking form if you prefer a morning or afternoon treatment.
What to Expect
Your Brightwood Day, practically
Basics
Brightwood Springs can welcome 10 guests per day: five arrive during a 9-10am window and depart by 5pm, and five arrive during a 10-11am window and depart by 6pm. Staggered timings preserve space for a gracious, personal welcome and an unhurried, meaningful farewell. Reservations are required and can be made until 9pm the night before. You’re welcome to begin your Springs day later and/or end earlier, just let us know so we can make sure to provide a complete experience.
A credit card is kept on file when you book. Optional meals, beverages, snacks, and shop purchases are quietly added during your visit and settled before the closing threshold, allowing the day itself to remain as free from transactions as possible.
What to bring (& leave behind)
Bring a swim suit (mandatory, but you’re welcome to rent one of ours), water bottle, weather-ready layers, comfortable walking shoes, and food if you prefer to bring your own. Bring as little else as the day allows.
We provide a bath towel, hand towel for sauna sitting, robe, slippers, sauna hat, face towel, and liter of pure spring water. Face towels can be replenished throughout the day in cold water that features the day’s signature essential oil blend. Swimsuits are available for rent, and extra provisions (water bottles, canvas bags, snacks, etc.) are available for purchase.
The day includes time outdoors and movement between Brightwood Springs and the surrounding land. Dress for the forecast in comfortable layers and bring footwear suitable for rocky, uneven forest paths. Rain, cool air, sun, changing temperatures, and bugs are all part of the setting.

Brightwood Wilderness Center
Forge. Rise. Become.
Brightwood begins from a simple premise: beneath the ways we adapt, manage, protect, and make ourselves smaller, there is a current of original, authentic life still moving. The wilderness that holds us—its canyons and creeks, wind and weather, flora and fauna—embodies this spark of original wildness and so teaches us how to be most fully ourselves. Brightwood Wilderness Center exists to capture this flame and crystalize it into lived experience, in service of the healing and unfoldment of ourselves, our communities, and our collective humanity.
Brightwood Wilderness Center holds the full Brightwood vision, encompassing the land, programs, events, and community that continue to grow here. At its core is Brightwood Springs, the physical heart of the Center and the locus of our on-site programs, including our foundational reset retreat, the Brightwood Day.
